Posts: 1 07/02/09 14:48:47	Tags : None Hello, I am a rising senior in high school. I want to become a Urologist one day. But, I really do not know what undergrad degree I should get. Someone told me that I could get any degree as long as I took the right science classes. Is this true? I was thinking of going for a degree in petroleum engineering, but I do not know if this would be a good thing. Does any one have any advice for me on where to go to school, what undergrad degree to go for, and what activities I should get involved with while in college? Thank You

A majority of the people entering "pre med" in college end up burning out or falling out because of the attrition rate. It doesn't matter what major you have in undergrad. Most med schools require the basic science courses for the MCAT: General Chem, General Bio, Organic Chem, Physics, maybe biochem. Once you make it into medschool, it's all about your scores, people you meet, and your application packet. Take it easy and enjoy life. Once you're in Medicine, you may regret the better things in life.

Posts: 3783 07/03/09 13:40:23	I would suggest that you look forward to your immediate next steps. Try to get into a good college. Pursue a degree on a topic that you would find interest in. If you like petroleum engineering, go for it. There is little overlap with medicine, but go for it and then during college, find out if you would enjoy medicine in as a field. One step at a time. Then if you choose medicine and attend medical school, explore your interests in a specific field of medicine (which may still be urology or may be something different).
