This program has gotten some bad press on this board and I'm not sure why.
Strengths: - surgical volume - rotations through: 1) UIC Hospital, the tertiary referral center for the Advocate HMO in Chicago. UIC also serves a large underserved population, bringing in diverse pathology 2) Jessie Brown VA - a very busy VA service with the typical VA patient population and resident autonomy 3) Children's Hospital 4) Christ Advocate Medical Center - a very busy urology rotation with 1 resident with 5 urologists. It's a 5th year rotation and the resident operates 5 days a week. - well known faculty, especially in infertility (Dr. Niederberger mediates the infertility section of the Journal of Urology) - Dr. Ross (the former chairman and still active faculty member) is the current president of the AUA - the city of Chicago - high volume of robotic prostatectomies, radical retropubic prostatectomies, and radical perineal prostatectomies. When you leave this program, you should be comfortable with all three approaches - 1 year of research (if you're into that sort of thing) Weaknesses: - 6 year program (not a weakness if you want the research) - not a lot of female urology, but improving during the Christ rotation and with the addition of new faculty last year |
