Suo stamp of approval | #1
|
any resident/fellow/attending want to add their two cents to the onc dicussion. It seems that people are pushing really hard for the "suo" stamp to
be an academic oncologist. I knew of someone who went the research/lap fellowship route and had initial issues with several programs that wanted that stamp. It
seems like most of the onc fellowship programs are so different in their strength and weaknesses and none is ideal in terms of balance of clinical training and
basic and clinical research. Anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

SUO stamp of approval | #2

Urologic Oncology fellowships do vary considerably in the experience offered, just like residency programs. This affords the applicant the opportunity to select the fellowship that is modeled to best fit their long term career goals. The SUO "stamp" carries with it the accredation of oncology training, something that a lap fellowship cannot offer. With the increasing number of SUO accrediated Urologic Oncology fellowships offered, I would not be surprised if more academic institutions will be looking the SUO "stamp" when recruiting faculty.
